Dom McLain
Hello, my name is Dom, and I am a dedicated husband, father, Certified Peer Support Specialist, and crisis professional with a deep passion for helping others navigate adversity and rediscover hope. My work is rooted in resilience, integrity, and the belief that no person is defined by their hardest moments.
As the father of an autistic daughter, I understand firsthand the importance of advocacy, patience, and creating environments where individuals feel supported, understood, and empowered to thrive. These experiences have shaped not only who I am as a parent, but who I am as a professional and community advocate.
For nearly five years as a Certified Peer Support Specialist and almost four years working as a Crisis Counselor at a Crisis Center in downtown Seattle, I have had the privilege of supporting some of King County’s most vulnerable populations. My experience includes working alongside individuals facing chronic substance use, homelessness, psychosis, developmental disabilities, suicidal ideation, and severe mental health challenges. These experiences have strengthened my ability to meet people where they are with compassion, dignity, and unwavering commitment.
My dedication to this work comes not only from professional experience, but from personal survival. After experiencing profound loss as a child, I faced significant mental health struggles from a young age, including depression and multiple suicide attempts. Today, I stand not as someone defined by adversity, but as someone who endured it and chose to transform pain into purpose.
I first recognized the power of lived experience during my junior year of high school when I openly shared my struggles with peers. The response of students reaching out privately to share their own pain and ask how healing was possible showed me the profound impact that honest connection and hope can have. It was then I discovered what I now know as the power of peer support: the ability to help others feel seen, understood, and capable of overcoming what once felt impossible.
I approach both life and work with perseverance and a steadfast belief that people are more than their hardest moments. I believe in standing beside others through adversity, challenging stigma, and reminding people that struggle does not define them. My commitment is simple: to never give up on the people I serve, because I know firsthand what can happen when someone believes in your ability to keep going.
